Timer candles at Wishful Living

"There is not enough darkness in all the world to put out the light of even one small candle"- Robert Alden

Placing a burning candle in one's window is a common tradition that dates back to colonial times. Candle light often evokes the warmth of home and family. The candle was often placed in the window when a member of the family was away. The lit candle was also placed in the window as a sign of good news or as a beacon to weary travelers. Candles also represented friendship and were seen as a sign of welcome to others. In early America, homes were often miles apart. The sight of a candle in a window from a distance was a sign of "welcome" to those wishing to visit.

At Wishful Living we have "timer" Tapers and Pillars, a battery operated candle that turns itself on for 6 hours, off for 18 hours, and turns itself on again for 6 hours and so on. They are a great addition to any holiday decor, or any time of year.

Stop in and see us in festive Berthoud, Colorado!  We're open daily through Christmas with extended hours.

One of the best things about working in Wishful Living is the smell. I know that may sound weird, but seriously. Right now when you walk into the store you’re enveloped in the smell of fall. It smells like cinnamon buns, warm hazelnut coffee, and warmth & coziness. This smell reminds me that the holidays are right around the corner and gives me all of these warm and fuzzy feelings about the changing seasons!

These Indonesian Cinnamon Bowls and Clove Boxes are the next things to grab my senses. Not only are they absolutely beautiful but they smell divine.  Obviously, the name says everything. End cuts of cinnamon sticks line the inside of these plates and bowls and make the perfect piece for display or the perfect way present your (already delicious smelling) baked cookies! The Clove Boxes are just the same in that they give off the most faint, delicious smell. I would use one to store jewelry, but they are the most precious little keepsake boxes and could be used for anything. They would be such a great way to wrap a small gift…jewelry, perhaps? Each and every Cinnamon Bowl and Clove Box was completely handcrafted in Indonesia.

I have never traveled outside of the country, so I can only imagine what it is like to be in Indonesia or Thailand. Being in Wishful Living I smell incense, the boat wood, and the air from the sea winds. It is what I imagine the smell of these countries to be. It feels like I get to travel every day.  ~ Nikki

paint-basketThese large baskets were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa and lately they are seen EVERYWHERE, and with a multitude of uses! Some of our favorite uses for these baskets (yes, you can get them at Wishful Living):

1. Load up your basket with your favorite arts and crafts supplies and pick a sunny spot on the porch. These baskets are sturdy and can hold a lot. I thought the addition of a bottle of wine would be wonderful too!

2. When considering new bathroom decor, these baskets are quite attractive for storing extra guest towels.

3. Heading to a party empty-handed? Fill your basket with your favorite local brew and a couple of glasses to bring to the party!

4. If you can’t decide on a piece of pottery to house your plant, you can put the pot inside a basket to add some color to your home.

5. Tote around your vegetables from the market.

6. If you need to organize your winter garments, these baskets make an attractive disguise!

These African baskets can be found at Wishful Living in beautiful, downtown Berthoud, Colorado.  Come and get yours before they’re all gone!
